Fitoremediasi Nilai Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) Pada Limbah Penyamakan Kulit Oleh Tanaman Eceng Gondok (Eichhornia Crassipes)
Abstract
The quality of water will be decreased againts leather tanning factory. A leather tanning factory is a very promising business, likewise in Garut District. Therefore, the liquid waste from the leather tanning factory needs to be treated before being released into the environment to avoid environmental pollution. Liquid waste treatment can be done by phytoremediation of aquatic plants to decrease the chemical oxygen demand (COD) value . The phytoremediation process is a cheap and effective liquid waste treatment solution. A water plant that can be used in phytoremediation process is Eichhornia crassipes. This kind of plant is easy to find and can live in areas with low water quality. The type of research used was a pre-experimental design with the type of one-group pretest-posttest design. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) value analysis method used was UV-Vis spectroscopy. The sampling technique used was grab sampling with sampling points on the surface a depth 1 meter and 2 meters. The results showed a decrease in the value of COD. The study showed that, it was shown that the exposure duration of 9 days was the most effective in reducing COD value ( 948 mg/L O2). In density variation, it showed that the density of 5 colonies were the most effective density to reduce the COD value (818.67 mg/L O2).
